 Class contingency plans for COVID-19

1.  Class contingency plans for COVID-19
At some point ,York College may decide to limit the campus classes to on-line classes. In the event that classes need to move on-line, the following are contingency plans. Note: This was written early on 2020-03-12. Later on 2020-03-12 that contingency became real.

Check the class web site and this page for the latest changes for CS 101 and CS 496.

2. Some contact methods
If you login, you will see some additional suggestions and contact methods.
You need to login to see additional contact methods here.

3. Class content and work
All class content (some requiring a login) has been and will continue to be on-line.

Class assignments, labs, etc., will still be posted and submissions due in the same manner.

On-line quizzes will be handled in a similar manner - except that PIN codes may change for each class.

You should be prepared to be at a computer connected to the Internet at class time.

4. Zoom etc.
Zoom will be used for class meetings. See the class calendar for specific details.

5. Instant messaging
I added an instant messaging widget (from tawk.io) that appears at the bottom right of a web page on the class site. When I am on, you can instant message me from that page. If I am not on, you can send me an email.

6. CS 101/496 workstations
Many students have and use their own laptops but some students rely on the work on specific workstations in KEC 119.

In class on 2020-03-12 we covered how to move your files to a flash drive, etc. The summary is as follows.
C:\cygwin64\home\userid

Remember: Doing work on one computer (changing the files) will not change the files on the other computer. So, keep track of what changes you make.

7. Cygwin for class work
This is a collection of notes on Cygwin that was updated on 2020-03-13. Cygwin is used in the classroom in KEC 119 for CS 101 and CS 496.
