Exam taking for CS101

1. Exam taking for CS101
Note: These notes are subject to change. In particular, it is planned to have a PIN to access the written requirements for the programmed part, as is done with the multiple choice questions, but this has not yet been implemented. In general, when questions arise, clarifications may be added, etc.
Here are the instructions/policy for taking exams in CS 101.

Except where noted, all parts are as follows. All work for all parts of the exam are to be individual work of the student taking the exam.

This is not a complete policy for taking exams in CS 101. Any notes on the web site, including but not limited to the syllabus, and policies and guidance given orally in class are also in force.

2. Notes
All access to on-line parts of the exam are tracked, to include time, location, etc.

In case discrepancies arise, these tracking features can be used to determine if ethical violations happened and appropriate action taken.

3. On-line multiple choice
During the on-line multiple choice part of the exam, screens should be maximized as no other sources of help are allowed.

A PIN number will be provided to access the on-line multiple choice questions.

You only have one chance to use the PIN and access the page. If you re-access the page after the work has started, you will not be allowed access. There is a time-limit to the on-line multiple choice questions. At one minute, the background will turn to red/pink. When time is up, the questions will auto-submit.

As soon as the submission is made, you can review the questions and see which ones you had correct and which ones were not correct. In case of discrepancy, the published answers to the multiple choice questions will be used. You should study those before the exam and bring to my attention any answers to which you disagree.

There are practice exams with questions that you should take before the exam.

4. Program part
After the on-line multiple choice part of the exam is completed, if there is a programming part, you should proceed to the program part.

5. General notes

6. Access to previous program work
During the programming part of the exam, you are only allowed access to your previous programming work on assignments and labs from this course. Using any other work, notes, etc., is not allowed and is considered cheating.

You are only allowed access to your previous work if you have those files available. Otherwise, you need to complete the programming work without access to those files.

If you move computers, and your work is on another computer, you are responsible for moving any desired files from one computer to the other computer and for properly configuring that other computer. You can move files from one computer to another via file copy via flash drive, via shared network drive, etc., but you are responsible for properly copying the files.

7. Hints
If you want to copy your CS101 work from one computer to another computer, copy the following folder from one computer to the other computer.
~/CS101

You are responsible for copying. If you overwrite any needed files, you will need to recreate them, get them from your backups, etc.

Note: Your home folder can vary from computer to computer and that depends on how the computer is set up, what user name is used, etc.
